Wellbeing for work
From improved attendance to greater productivity, not to mention the long-term health benefits, there is a growing recognition that a fit and healthy workforce can make a difference to the bottom line, and Wellbeing for Work is a local company at the forefront of this revolution.
The company was founded by entrepreneur Sam Fuller and followed the success of Absolute Nutrition. Indeed, it was through her work as a highly successful nutritionist with two practices that she became aware the majority of her clients came from the corporate sector and were often sedentary office workers spending long hours behind their desks, going from meeting to meeting.
She explained: “This lifestyle was causing them high stress levels and exhaustion. These symptoms were really impacting on their work life balance and when I spoke to the businesses involved I realised there was a solution – and Wellbeing for Work was born.
“Our health and wellbeing programmes provide a fresh new approach for early intervention and prevention of ill health at work. We aim to improve employees’ mental and physical capacity for engagement and performance and help them to recognise the value of self management of health during demanding times.”
PriceWaterhouseCoopers reports in its Building the case for wellness', published in February, that programme costs can quickly translate into financial benefits, either through cost savings or additional revenue generation, as a consequence of the improvement in a wide range of intermediate business measures.
The managing director of London marketing company Redeem It, Andrew Wood, has seen firsthand how using Wellbeing for Work to follow this approach can make a real difference.
He said: “When we first spoke to Wellbeing for Work we were having problems with absenteeism, general levels of stress, and in a couple of cases physical stresses and strains across all levels of staff seniority.
“We ran a pilot for the three programmes side by side; stress management, energy management and fit for work and I must say I was delighted with the results. Apart from the morale improvements, I am more impressed with two hard facts I determined: pro-rata we saved on average working 2.15 days per employee per annum. This equated to working 70 days saved and I estimate about £13,400 in real costs saved and a further improvement in productivity I estimate at the same, so a total of about £27,000.
“I am recommending to our board that we roll this out to our other offices.”
Wellbeing for Work specialises in working with individuals and organisations in the private and public sectors. Sam Fuller continues to break new ground in providing a unique range of products and services designed to offer tangible and measurable health and productivity benefits.
She concluded: “Wellbeing for Work has selected a team of highly trained and results orientated health and lifestyle specialists, including nutritionists, executives coaches and physiotherapists. Together they can really make an impact on the health and wellbeing of staff and in turn the performance of the companies who use us.”
